Have a sweet weekend!

Happy Friday! This weekend I have tickets to the Boston Pie Experiment which I am really excited to go to! It is the Boston leg of The Food Experiments tour, which is an amateur cook-off that takes place in many different cities with a different food theme in each. I cannot wait to sample all sorts of pie!

I think I may be a little late to this party, but I have only just discovered Pinterest, and am completely obsessed with it! It is essentially a group of virtual pinboards and you can add any and everything to them. You can also see what other people are pinning and re-pinning. I absolutely love it. It is exactly what I have been needing to organize bookmarks, and keep track of little things across the internet that I run across, mean to remember but then ultimately forget about. I also love that it's visual instead of my usual list of bookmarks.

Are you on Pinterest? I'd love to see your boards! If you need an invite (the site is invite only), leave your e-mail address and I'll send one over. Pin It

What's on my nails: Deborah Lippmann I Know What Boys Like

My favorite thing about nail polish from Deborah Lippmann is the song based names! The colors and formula are great too, but I like that they don't have the typical (kind of dumb) names that other polishes tend to sport.

I Know What Boys Like is a great purple/blue color, and it really walks the line right between both; it's a great indigo.

While watching my French Chef DVDs, I realized I couldn't go any longer without a crepe. So I made some!

My go-to recipe for crepes is adapted from
The Joy of Cooking:

1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup milk
1/4 cup lukewarm water
large eggs
tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
1 1/2 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
pinch salt

Combine all ingredients and let rest at room temperature for 30 minutes before use (can also be refrigerated if you aren't using it right after 30 minutes). Then add batter to crepe pan or iron, swirl, flip, fill and enjoy! I did lemon juice and sugar in and on the crepe, then added some fresh berries on top as well.

I recently got a cool crepe iron similar to ones I've seen in creperies, and I love it because it makes huge crepes, and I like using the spreader for an even crepe, also there's more room for filling and toppings!

    Have a fun-filled weekend!

Happy Friday! Tonight one of my very best friends, Maxine is coming to visit and I cannot wait to see her! Tomorrow there will be a long and lazy breakfast, possibly a tour of the Taza Chocolate Factory and a night out with friends. No matter what we do, air conditioning will be required. I cannot believe how hot it is in Boston right now! Then Sunday is the baby shower I have been planning. It will be busy, but lots of fun.

What's on my nails: Sephora by OPI Flurry Up over Essie Splash of Grenadine

Essie's Splash of Grenadine has been my favorite go-to pink polish since I bought it last spring, I find it to be the perfect pink for my skin color, and is just fun and girly to wear.

The second I saw Flurry Up top coat from Sephora by OPI, I knew I needed it . It adds such a fun, sparkly element to a plain nail polish from day one, or dressing up a color you've had on for a few days that might need a little refreshing.

    Zucchini Orzo Salad

This recipe was originally from a friend, and I have tweaked and edited it over time. This is a favorite summer dish of mine because you can utilize whatever fresh vegetables you have and it will always taste delicious. It is good hot, cold or room temperature, which makes it perfect to bring to a cookout.

1 lb. box orzo (rice shaped pasta)
    3 T olive oil
    1 red onion, finely diced
    4 cloves garlic, minced
    2 large zucchini, cubed
    1 ear of corn
    1/2 C parmigiano cheese, grated
Juice and zest of 1 lemon
    Salt & Pepper

You could also add: grilled chicken or salmon, tomatoes, fresh herbs, anything really...
Cook orzo in salted water until tender, drain and set aside

Meanwhile, heat oil in large skillet, add garlic and onions and saute for a couple of minutes, then add in zucchini, then corn.
Combine vegetable mixture and orzo in your favorite serving bowl along with the lemon juice and zest. Add salt and pepper to taste. Serve with freshly grated cheese.

Kate Spade is starting a makeup line!

Oh my goodness, I am so excited for this. I love Kate Spade's elegant style and special details. I cannot wait to get my hands on this line. It looks so fun and beautiful! I love the gold tubes that say "pucker up" and the whimsical name "Supercalifragilipstick." What do you think of this new direction for Kate Spade?

"From cut to color, Kate Spade products are what our dreams are made of. That's why we're ecstatic to learn that the brand is teaming up with Australian lipstick maker Poppy King to make Kate Spade's first makeup line. Called "Supercalifragilipstick," the lipstick is housed in glam gold tubes and comes in a gorgeous variety of pinks and reds, as well as a friendly-ish price-tag of $24. Even better, Kate Spade will launch a line of cosmetic cases to go along with the new lippies, which we're sure will be as cute and classy as their full-sized bags. The product will be available in stores and online in September..."

This Saturday the exhibition Jim Henson's Fantastic World opens at the Museum of Moving Image in Astoria, NY. On display there will be some of the famous muppets, photographs, various items from different points of Henson's career, and a screening of The Muppet Movie on opening night. The exhibit will run through January 16, 2012.

Having grown up with Sesame Street, Fraggle Rock and The Muppets (my fave), I would love to get to NY and have time to go see this exhibition, it seems so exciting and special.

What's on my nails: Chanel Quartz Le Vernis & Particuliere Comparison

Another color from Chanel's fall collection. Quartz is a completely gorgeous shimmery neutral color. It has a quality similar to last year's Particuliere (an all time favorite of mine), and I have seen a lot of reviews saying that Quartz is just a shimmery Particuliere. However I find it to be a lighter, more silvery color instead of taupe (so one can definitely justify owning both!).

    Raspberry Cobbler

Last night I decided to make individual raspberry cobblers for dessert to utilize some of the berries picked this weekend. The recipe is so easy, and the results are so delicious.

You need equal parts melted butter, flour and sugar. Start by mixing the flour and sugar, then add in enough of the melted butter to form a soft dough (for these mini cobblers I used about 1/2 cup of each). Put any type of fruit you like into a buttered baking dish (or individual ramekins, I used these) and sprinkle with a little sugar (and/or other preferred seasoning, like cinnamon, vanilla or nutmeg). take dough and form it into small patties and patch it together over the fruit. Bake at 350 until the crust is golden.

Yesterday my husband and I spent part of the day at a nearby farm picking raspberries. We came home with a lot of berries, our favorite way is to just eat them by themselves, but I may bake with some too.

It was a beautiful day and not too hot. I took a ton of photographs and thought I would share a few here.

    Loving: Belz on Bell

The new website HelloGiggles has become a quick favorite of mine, the fact that one of its founders is the amazing Zooey Deschanel doesn't hurt either. Some of my favorite things on the website include: Item of the Day, Illustrated Tweet of the Day, Stuff I Would Invent If I Had Time and Belz on Bell.

The segment Belz on Bell written by Karen Belz is amazing. She does tongue-in-cheek episode recaps of Saved by the Bell including commentary on the outfits (man I used to think they dressed so well!). It's an amazing weekly feature that brings me right back to the Saturday morning TV of my youth. As soon as I finish reading one, I cannot wait for the next one to come out. I can't get enough, I just love it.

Friday Fun: Soda Fountain Flow Chart

Soda fountain savant Gregory Cohen put together this comprehensive chart that distinguishes the differences between egg creams (my personal favorite!), phosphates, milkshakes and many things I have never even heard of like a fritz or a yip. I find the whole thing fascinating, and am jealous of the research he must have had to do.

    Etsy love: Confetti Garland

Isn't this just the loveliest idea? A spool wrapped with a brightly colored string of confetti, what a wonderful thing to have on hand for a party, celebration or just a Tuesday! I love the delicate yet fun look of the garland and the fact that it will be much easier to clean up (just roll it back on the spool for next time) than tossed confetti.

Kristina Marie's etsy shop  has every color you could ever want and money saving three packs of various colors. Isn't the rainbow garland beautiful:

    Baby Showers!

One of my close friends, Tina  is pregnant and due in September and she's the first of any of my friends to have a baby. I am in the midst of planning the shower with her two sisters and we all couldn't be more excited to be aunts.

I actually have never been to a baby shower before, so planning one with TV and movies as my only references has been quite the experience. We are doing an outdoor cookout with a very summery theme, and as a departure from the norm, we are including the men as well.

    New Shawnimals

I am a longtime fan of the designer toy company Shawnimals, which I first discovered at New York Comic Con, and have been hooked and collecting ever since. The founder, Shawn Smith has created a whole world of adorable creatures and creates plush, comics and video games to bring his characters to life.

He has a Ninja of the Month club, where he creates a brand new, limited edition and releases it on the first Wednesday of each month. This month's ninja is Business Ninja:

     "From the tag:
"Buy, sell! Two words this Business Ninja knows all too well. Another? Caffeine. Too much of it, in fact, thus making his eyes all buggy and his tie a bit disheveled. We think it's time he drops that stack of spreadsheets and chirping NinjaPhone, and takes a much-needed tropical vacation."

"Buy! Sell! Help! Ugh! Sleep! Zzzzz..."
When you order this $30 product you get...
    • A handmade ~ 7" x 7" plush Ninja limited to 100 pcs.
    • Signed and numbered fancy hang tag
    • Fun accessories – An actual tie and mini, felt NinjaPhone!
    • A character sticker & button"
Today was also the announcement of the exclusive plushes for release at San Diego Comic Con (I wish I could go!), Super Ninja and Evil Syrup Ninja:

"That's right – two releases, one available at Kidrobot
(booth 4529), one available at Rotofugi
(booth 4736).  Each is handmade, limited to 50 pieces, and has an MSRP of $22.99 (or an even $25 with sales tax at the show) and comes with a numbered tag!
Nab your favorite of the two, or get both and embrace both sides of your personality! Availability post-show is determined by Kidrobot and Rotofugi, respectively.
In addition, Shawnimal will be signing at the following times:
    • Kidrobot – Friday July 22nd – 4pm to 6pm Pacfic – booth 4529
    • Rotofugi – Saturday July 23rd – 1pm to 2pm – booth 4736"
