The Boston Pie Experiment

The Boston Pie Experiment was a fantastic event! There was a great variety of pie including lots of delicious savory ones, but the majority of the entrants were sweet pies. Almost all of the pies had creative names and ingredients, we had a lot of fun. The winners have not been announced yet, but I will update this post once they are up.

My favorite savory pie was "A Pie Named George" from team DS9 Supper Club, which was this incredibly tender roasted eggplant mixed with carmelized onions and seasonings in a breadcrumb crust made with truffle oil and parmigiano-reggiano cheese. Greg, who hates eggplant absolutely loved this pie, it was amazing. I am planning to e-mail the makers for the recipe today, I need to make this pie and eat more of it.

My favorite sweet pie was "Pretzel Me Sweetly" from team Right In Your Piehole, which was served as bite sized tarts with a pretzel crust and a delicious chocolate filling, plus little cups of milk on the side. The salty-sweet combo was absolutely perfect.

A few other favorites were the Attack of the Killer Tomato Pie, the Vanilla Maple Mousse w/ Bacon Pie, and the Sticky Toffee Pudding Pie, both completely delicious.

Overall, my vote went to "A Pie Named George", it was simply fantastic and unique.

Here are a few photos from the day:
