White Trash Bars

I first clicked on this recipe because of its hilarious name. Then I couldn't stop thinking about these simple treats, and I had to make them. I'm a little obsessed with them now; they're this great salty, sweet, chewy, crunchy conglomeration of awesome.

This seemingly odd  and simple combination makes a ridiculously good bar (and no one who tries them can guess what they're made of, I've taken a poll, no one says crackers and sweetened condensed milk).

White Trash Bars (adapted from here)
2 sleeves of Ritz crackers, crushed
1 1/3 cups toffee bits (I used the Heath bar ones that also had chocolate pieces in it, as my market was out of plain toffee bits)
1 14-ounce can of sweetened condensed milk
1 cup semi sweet chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 350, and grease an 8x8 pan

Mix crushed Ritz crackers and toffee bits together in bowl (or you can mix them right in the baking pan if you prefer). Pour in the sweetened condensed milk and stir until well combined.

Pour mixture into prepared pan and press down lightly so they make an even layer. Bake for about 20 minutes until golden brown.

Remove pan from oven and let cool for a couple minutes, then sprinkle the chocolate chips on top, let them sit until they start looking melty and then spread them over the bars into an even layer. Let cool completely before cutting.
