Mad Men for Banana Republic

Banana Republic has launched another line inspired by Mad Men. This one is very mod and looks like it was taken straight from Megan Draper's closet. It features great colors and bold, graphic prints, a very different look compared to the previous two Mad Men lines.

Mad Men starts back up on April 7 with a two hour premiere, I cannot wait!

White Trash Bars

I first clicked on this recipe because of its hilarious name. Then I couldn't stop thinking about these simple treats, and I had to make them. I'm a little obsessed with them now; they're this great salty, sweet, chewy, crunchy conglomeration of awesome.

This seemingly odd  and simple combination makes a ridiculously good bar (and no one who tries them can guess what they're made of, I've taken a poll, no one says crackers and sweetened condensed milk).

White Trash Bars (adapted from here)
2 sleeves of Ritz crackers, crushed
1 1/3 cups toffee bits (I used the Heath bar ones that also had chocolate pieces in it, as my market was out of plain toffee bits)
1 14-ounce can of sweetened condensed milk
1 cup semi sweet chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 350, and grease an 8x8 pan

Mix crushed Ritz crackers and toffee bits together in bowl (or you can mix them right in the baking pan if you prefer). Pour in the sweetened condensed milk and stir until well combined.

Pour mixture into prepared pan and press down lightly so they make an even layer. Bake for about 20 minutes until golden brown.

Remove pan from oven and let cool for a couple minutes, then sprinkle the chocolate chips on top, let them sit until they start looking melty and then spread them over the bars into an even layer. Let cool completely before cutting.

Banana Chocolate Chip Donuts

Another batch of baked donuts! I'm officially obsessed with my donut pan. You could make these in muffin tins though if you don't have a donut pan.

Banana Chocolate Chip Donuts (adapted from here)
1 large, very ripe banana, mashed
1/4 cup granulated sugar
3 tablespoons plain greek yogurt
1 tablespoon milk
1 1/2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup mini chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 325. Grease your donut pan.

Mix together banana, sugar, yogurt, milk, butter, egg, and vanilla.

In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the banana combination. Mix until just combined. Fold in chocolate chips. Pour batter into prepared pan.

Bake for about 15 minutes, until golden brown, rotating the pan halfway through cooking.

Kate Spade Saturday at Fab

Kate Spade is releasing a brand new line featuring the perfect items to make every day feel as fun and light as Saturday. The line ranges from clothing to home goods, with all the accessories in between. It has the preppy-chic feel of Kate Spade New York, with a bit more of a bold, graphic vibe splashed in. This line officially releases in early March, but Fab currently has a pop-up shop of some of the new goodies for you to get your hands on early (what's better than being the first one with that new special something).

Here are a few of my faves:

The French Chef

50 years ago today, Julia Child's cooking show The French Chef first premiered on television. This show was truly a pioneer as one of the very first cooking shows to ever be on tv.

Let it snow

In the Northeast, we are hunkering down today in anticipation of Blizzard Nemo (I like that we are naming winter storms now). In Boston we're expecting a couple feet of snow and the whole city is shut down. I'm planning on doing some baking, watching lots of movies and just riding out the storm from inside my warm apartment.

In celebration of snow, I found a website where you can cut a "paper" snowflake just like when you were a kid, I had a bit of fun with it, here's my creation (you all should make one too!):

Are you expecting a white weekend where you are? What's your favorite thing to do in snowy weather?

Sweet Orange Butter

I am loving flavored butter lately, it's so easy to whip up, and it's such a great way to add a special something extra to a good piece of bread (toasted or not). And mixing fruit into butter makes it a health food, right?

This is seriously delicious stuff.

Sweet Orange Butter (adapted from here)
1 stick unsalted butter, room temperature
1 tablespoon + 1 teaspoon honey
1 1/2 tablespoons fresh orange juice
1 teaspoon orange zest

Blend all ingredients together until completely smooth and incorporated. That's it!

Super Bowl and Puppy Bowl

This Sunday brings Super Bowl XLVII, matching up the San Francisco 49ers and the Baltimore Ravens. I'm not a huge football fan, and don't really find myself feeling strongly about either team. I do, however, enjoy foods that are eaten during football games.

As a nod to this years host city (New Orleans), I'm thinking a batch of jambalaya might be the perfect thing to enjoy during the game. Want some more ideas for what to whip up for your Super Bowl Party? How about something...

Cheesey?
Fried Camembert
Mac & Cheese
Roasted Garlic Cheese Bread

Meaty?
Bagel Spice Wings
Barbacoa Beef
Chicken Nuggets
Pulled Pork
Turkey Chili

Sweet?
Caramel Corn
Peanut Butter Oat Bars
Pecan Coconut Brownies
Seven Layer Bars

This Sunday another annual event can also be seen: Puppy Bowl IX! An adorable alternative to football filled with romping puppies. The full starting lineup can be seen here (they're all so cute!), all of the puppies shown are shelter dogs, and the whole show is targeted towards awareness of adopting a pet. Truly awesome.

Are you excited for the Super Bowl? What team are you rooting for? What's your favorite football snack?
